Some define Pedraforca as a magical mountain. And, this peak that is located in the Sierra del Cadí, is considered one of the greatest symbols of mountaineering in Catalonia . Without a doubt, a privilege for the senses of those who dare to climb its summit and also for those who stop to observe it from one of its viewpoints.

This mountain is located within the Cadí-Moixeró Natural Park area (Berguedà region) and acts as a natural border between the provinces of Barcelona and Lleida. One of the characteristics that make it so peculiar is its original shape, which has two ridges separated by a hill . The highest part of Pedraforca reaches 2,506 meters, a challenge for the daring who manage to reach this part. In 1982 it was declared a natural site of national interest by the Parliament of Catalonia.

Pedraforca for the little ones

Although it is true that this mountain can give vertigo, and never better said, when thinking of it to include it as a family plan, it should be known that there are simple excursions to do with boys and girls that allow you to enjoy the place and the views without the need for tremendous efforts.

If you want to climb the Pedraforca with very young boys or girls or without much experience in the mountains, it is advisable to choose the route from Gósol . In this way, the inclination of the classic ascent will be saved and will allow you to easily turn around if something unforeseen arises. It should be known that your climb is somewhat complicated and is not recommended for children under 10 years of age.

But as we have advanced, not only could you enjoy the mountain from its highest point; but there are other options that allow us to approach this natural site and begin to discover it.

Lluís Estates Refuge, available to everyone!

A very successful option is the walk that takes you to the Lluís Estates refuge. Right at the foot of the mountain it is difficult not to be amazed when witnessing the landscape. The excursion begins at the Gresolet viewpoint , which is an impressive balcony towards the Cadí-Moixeró natural park. This viewpoint is located in the same parking lot. From there to the refuge there is an excursion of about 30 minutes approx; with some inclination. In the refuge there is a fountain with which to cool off while enjoying the views.

Some advices

This advice, which is applicable to any family plan, is more so when we have a mountain as a stage. It is important to keep an eye on the weather forecast to make sure there is some stability. Keep in mind that in Pedraforca the weather is very variable and in a short time you can go from a clear blue sky to a strong thunderstorm.

What should not be missing in your backpack: raincoats for the whole family, water, something to eat and a mobile phone in case you have to notify of any unforeseen event.

Aside from being open-mouthed, what else can you do?
